How Juvederm Restores Lost Facial Volume so You Look Younger

The spotlight is often on wrinkles, but the loss of volume in the face can significantly change facial contours, causing a sunken look often accompanied by loose skin. 

Loss of volume in the face is caused by a variety of factors, including loss of bone mass, shifting pads of fat, and loss of muscle mass in the face. Some of these risk factors can be reduced by focusing on a diet high in calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin K2 to ensure healthy bones, and increasing protein to prevent muscle mass loss.

How Juvederm can restore the loss of volume 

The main ingredient in Juvederm, hyaluronic acid, is found naturally in the human body. When injected, it attracts water and stimulates the production of collagen. 

As a result, the filled area becomes plumper. Often, the appearance of the skin near the Juvederm injection site improves as well. 

Depending on the location of the injection, Dr. Volk may use an injectable from the Juvederm family with different concentrations. Juvederm can add volume to the cheeks and lips and can fill in wrinkles caused by the loss of volume, such as lines around the mouth and nose. 

Juvederm is also used to improve the symmetry of the face if one side of the face is less plump than the other. 

Preparing for the treatment 

There are no special preparations, as the treatment is minimally invasive. However, you may be recommended to avoid blood thinners, such as aspirin, to decrease your risk for bruising. 

What to expect from a Juvederm treatment 

Dr. Volk may use a pencil to mark the areas in which she will inject the filler and use her fingers to slowly massage the treated area to encourage the distribution of the filler. 

Some changes are noticeable right after the treatment, but the final results are visible about two weeks after the injections. The side effects are mild and shouldn’t prevent you from continuing your daily routine. You can expect some mild bruising, swelling, and redness. 

Depending on the type of Juvederm filler injected, results can last anywhere between 12 and 24 months. If you don’t like the results, hyaluronic-acid-based fillers can be dissolved using a special enzyme.
