Do you wish there was a way to tighten loose skin and improve overall texture? You might want skin rejuvenation, but you need something without much downtime.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive way to give you the youthful skin that you desire with very little downtime. If you decide that this treatment is right for you, you should know what to expect from your first session.
Read on to find out what you need to know about how microneedling works.
How Does Microneedling Work?
When you want to improve the overall texture of your skin, microneedling may be the best option. This procedure takes place in our office and uses the power of a small handheld device containing tiny microneedles.
During the procedure, we pass the device over the targeted areas of the face, where it creates a series of small micro-wounds. These small wounds prompt the body to begin the healing response.
As part of the natural healing response, your body will begin to produce more collagen and elastin. Both collagen and elastin are natural parts of the body that result in firmer, smoother, clearer skin.
If you’re interested in other treatments such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or medical-grade skin care products, you may want to consider microneedling simultaneously. It can drastically improve the absorption power of these products, giving you the full benefits of treatment.
Traditional microneedling takes place with the SkinPen, which was the first FDA-approved device for this purpose.
In addition to combining microneedling with other skin care products, we can also combine it with another powerful treatment: radiofrequency. We use the Vivace Fractional Micro Needle RF to deliver radiofrequency simultaneously to your microneedling experience. The result is tight skin with a more even tone.
What Does Microneedling Treat?
At first glance, microneedling is a powerful treatment when it comes to skin tightening and skin rejuvenation. With the boost in collagen and elastin, your skin can look younger for longer. This isn’t the only benefit of this treatment, though.
While it is powerful for treating wrinkles, fine lines, and even loose skin, it can also be used to treat:
- Acne scars and other facial scarring
- Rough skin texture
- Uneven skin tone or dullness
- Large pore size
- Stretch marks
- Hyperpigmentation, including sunspots
Microneedling with the SkinPen is a simple procedure with a long list of benefits. If you have any of the above skin issues, then you might be the ideal candidate for this treatment. It can be used safely on all skin types and skin tones, making it great for just about everyone.
Before Treatment
We recommend that you take a couple of steps to maximize the benefits of your microneedling treatment. First, we ask that you stop using exfoliants that can irritate the skin the week before your session. These can be swapped for mild skin cleansers.
We also ask that you drink more water than usual, as this can help to speed up the healing process following your microneedling session. Hydration aids in cell turnover, giving you the beautiful skin that you wanted when you signed up for microneedling.
The Treatment Session
You have had your consultation and we decided that microneedling is the best option for you to achieve the skin that you want. What can you expect from a treatment session? Knowing how it will go can put your mind at ease and help you make plans for your treatment.
When you come in for your appointment, we will begin by applying a topical numbing cream to the area that will be treated with the SkinPen. This helps to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Next, we will use the SkinPen to create the micro-wounds that will trigger the healing response.
If you are opting for radiofrequency with your microneedling, it will be applied along with the microneedling.
The entire process can be relatively short, depending on the extent of the treatment area. Some patients are done in as little as a half-hour, while others may require a full hour.
After the Session
You will likely want to plan to have a few days off after your microneedling session. While the procedure does not impact your ability to perform daily activities, it does require some social downtime that usually lasts for a few days up to a week. During this time of relaxation, the skin can rejuvenate and heal.
Skin Tightening Results
We’ve determined that microneedling is the right fit for you, and you are prepared for your first treatment session. But you might still be wondering how long you will see skin rejuvenation after your treatment. Many of our patients see relatively long-lasting results, with tighter, fresher skin lasting for months after their microneedling treatments.
Some benefits such as improvements to texture or acne scars can be quite long-lasting, as well. You may not need many follow-up appointments to maintain the results of the treatment for these issues.
If you want your skin rejuvenation to last, we recommend booking regular microneedling sessions every few months. The procedure can also be combined with medical-grade skin care products or PRP for maximum benefits.
